In order to travel from Cochabamba to Potosí by bus, you must take the bus at the bus terminal in Cochabamba, located on Avenida Ayacucho. The buses arrive in Potosí at the new bus terminal, located on Avenida Las Banderas.

The trips between these two cities are made generally at night so passengers can sleep through the trip. Buses will make a short stop along the way to allow passengers to buy dinner.

TRAVEL OPTIONS FROM COCHABAMBA TO POTOSI

Direct trip: You can travel directly from Potosí to Cochabamba. The journey takes about 10 hours. Buses leave in the evening at 8:00pm and 9:00pm from the new bus terminal. The bus company offering this service is Trans Copacabana S.A. (semi lie-flat bus and lie-flat bus). Before boarding the bus, you will have to pay a terminal fee called uso de terminal which has a cost of 2.5 Bs.

Trip with stopover: The other option is to stop in Sucre which is only 3 hours away from Potosí.

SOME TOURISTIC INFORMATION THAT CAN BE OF INTEREST

Casa de la Moneda: This is a great museum about the history of the silver mines and Potosí. Guided tours in English or Spanish lead you through 20 galleries that show everything from weapons to archeology to the coin presses themselves.

Cerro Rico: There are several companies that offer visits of the mines. Some companies are more ethical than others. Check online reviews to make sure you book the tour with a company that really supports the miners.

City Center: Several impressive and well preserved colonial buildings can be found in the historic center of Potosí center: Torre de la Compañía de Jesús, Catedral de la Ciudad de Potosí, Convento Museo Santa Teresa, and Iglesia de San Lorenzo de Carangas, are some of the highlights.

Hot springs: Belief in the curative powers of Tarapaya turned these thermal baths into the most frequently visited hot-springs around Potosí (21km northwest of the city). They date back to Inca times.

Restaurants: Do not miss the calapurka, a soup made with wheat flour and cooked with a hot stone.

Accommodation: Located at 4,060 meters above sea level, Potosí can get particularly cold at night and in winter. Bring layers and be prepared that some hostels may not have heating.
