The trip from Oruro to Uyuni by bus will take you across amazing landscapes of the Bolivian altiplano, with beautiful rock formations. TRAVEL OPTIONS FROM ORURO TO UYUNI

Tickets Bolivia offers one bus travel option for this journey:

Direct trip by bus: The journey from Uyuni to Oruro is direct and lasts 4:30 hours. Departures are at 4am and 2:30pm every day. You can travel safely on this route with Expreso 11 de Julio. Before boarding the bus you will be asked to pay a small fee called Uso de Terminal, which costs 2 Bolivianos per passenger.
Direct trip by train: Another option is to travel from Uyuni to Oruro by train. There are two trains who do this journey: The Wara Wara del Sur and Expreso del Sur. Wara Wara del Sur runs on Wednesdays and Sundays, leaving at 7:00pm, and the Expreso del Sur runs Tuesdays and Fridays, leaving at 2.30pm. They offer the choice to travel in 2nd class and Executive. The train is direct and takes about 7 hours.
Trip with stopover: You can also go from Oruro to Potosi, which is 6 hours on a paved road and visit a beautiful, colonial town filled with history. From Potosi to Uyuni it’s 4 hours. Bus companies providing this service are Expreso 11 de Julio and Trans Azul.

SOME TOURISTIC INFORMATION THAT CAN BE OF INTEREST

Uyuni is the gateway to the world’s largest salt flat. You have different options to visit it:

1-day tour: The best option for those who want to experience Uyuni but are short on time. The full day tours start and finish in Uyuni on the same day, leaving Uyuni at about 10:00am. The first stop is the Train Cemetery. Then you visit Colchani, a small town where you can buy local salt and textile ornaments and have lunch. After lunch, the tour goes into the salt flat, to Incahuasi Island (Isla del Pescado). Tours return to Uyuni at around 6:00pm.
3-day tour: This tour is the most recommended to enjoy everything the Salar de Uyuni has to offer. The first day is the same as the one-day tour. The first night is spent in one of the salt hotels within the Salar. The second and third days are spent visiting lagoons where you can see flamingos, hot geysers, strange rock formations and bathe in hot springs.
