Puno is one of the peruvian cities that attracts the most tourists, located on the shores of lake Titicaca at an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level. It is also the gateway to Peru from Bolivia and most of the eastern South America. In order to travel from Cochabamba to Puno, you need to divide the trip in two segments: firts from Cochabamba to La Paz and then from La Paz to Puno.
The trip from Cochabamba to La Paz takes 8 hours, crossing 379 km of valleys and Altiplano. The buses leave from Cochabamba at the bus terminal on Ayacucho Av., and before boarding the bus you must pay a small fee called "Uso de terminal", charged for the terminal´s maintenance. In La Paz, the buses arrive at the bus terminal located on Peru and Uruguay Av. In order to travel from there to Puno you must take a bus from the same bus terminal.
The trip to Puno from La Paz takes round 5 hours, depending on the bus company and the route. The distance is of 255 km. The trip may be direct, with migration in Desaguadero, or you may go through Copacabana, in which case migration will be done in Pisiga-Colchane. Once in Puno, it is very easy to travel to Cusco, Arequipa or Lima.
