TRAVEL OPTIONS FROM VILLAZÓN TO TUPIZA

Direct trip by bus: There is a direct bus from Villazón to Tupiza. The journey takes 8 hours and the bus leaves at 4:00pm from the new bus terminal on Avenida Tumusla. Please note that passengers have to pay a small bus terminal fee of 2 bolivianos (about US$0.30) before boarding the bus. The company doing this route is Expreso 11 de Julio (normal buses).
Direct trip by train: For a more comfortable journey, you can travel by train with Expreso del Sur (Wednesday and Saturdays, 3:30pm departures) or Wara Wara del Sur (Monday and Thursday, 3:30pm departures). The journey takes about 9 hours by train. The train offers a salon class and an executive class.
Travel with stopover: From Villazón, you can travel directly to Potosi, Sucre and Oruro if you want to visit these cities before going to Tupiza.

Hiking: There are a number of good hikes that you do from Tupiza. The nearby Cerro Corazon de Jesus offers a quick hike for example. You can also hike to Cerro de la Cruz for hilltop views of the town. Another hike is Cordillera de Chicas. You can reach these places with a tour or with public transportation.
Salt Flats: Starting a Salar de Uyuni tour in Tupiza is a great alternative to starting in Uyuni: Tupiza departures arrive at each attraction at a different time of day, meaning the sites can be enjoyed without the company of other tourists.
Food: You can head to the main market and eat at one of the stalls for very cheap. There are also restaurants offering pizza and pasta.
