The city of Santa Cruz, the largest in the Bolivian low-lands, lies at a distance of 1.271 km from the city of Calama, in the north of Chile. There is no direct bus trip between these cities, so you have to make the bus trip in two parts: first, from Santa Cruz to Cochabamba, and then from Cochabamba to Calama. In total, this trop lasts approx 29 hours.
The buses from Santa Cruz leave every night and arrive in Cochabamba early the next morning. From Cochabamba, the buses to Calama leave at 08:30 in the morning, arriving in Calama at 03:30 the next day. You will cross the border at Pisiga-Colchane.
This trip takes you from the tropical city of Santa Cruz to the valleys, highlands and mountain ranges of Bolivia, and on to the Chilean desert, a fascinating array of contrasting landscapes.
