Uyuni is located at 204 km from the city of Potosi. The trip takes 3 hours by bus through a paved highway, crossing beautiful landscapes of the Bolivian altiplano and Andes region. In order to take a bus to Uyuni from Potosi you must go to Potosi´s "old" bus terminal, located on Avenida Universitaria. This is the bus terminal used for trips within the department of Potosi. The buses from Potosi to Uyuni leave every day at 9:30am, 4:30pm and 5:30pm, and they arrive in Uyuni at the bus stop located on Avenida Cabrera.

TRAVEL OPTIONS FROM POTOSI TO UYUNI

Direct trip : There are direct buses from Potosi to Uyuni. The journey takes 4 hours and the buses leave from the ‘old’ bus terminal on Avenida Universitaria. Buses leave at 9:30am, 4:30pm and 5:30pm. The bus company doing this route is Expreso 11 de Julio (normal buses).

SOME TOURISTIC INFORMATION THAT CAN BE OF INTEREST

You have different options to visit the Salar de Uyuni:

One-day tour: The best option for those who want to experience the salt flat but are short on time and/or money. The full day tour starts and finishes in Uyuni on the same day. The first stop is the Train Cemetery, followed by the town of Colchani, where you can buy local salt and textile ornaments and have lunch. After lunch, the tour goes into the Salar, to Incahuasi Island, or Isla del Pescado. Tours return to Uyuni at around 6:00pm.
Three-day tour : This tour is the most recommended to enjoy everything that the Salar de Uyuni has to offer. The first day is the same as the above one-day tour. The first night is spent in one of the salt hotels within the Salar. The second and third days are spent visiting colorful lagoons, where you can see flamingos, hot geysers, strange rock formations and bathe in hot springs. It’s also possible to hop over the border at the end of the tour to San Pedro de Atacama, Chile.
