TRAVEL OPTIONS FROM LA PAZ TO AREQUIPA

Tickets Bolivia offers several bus travel options to make this journey:

• Trip with stopover: The most common option is to break the journey to Arequipa by stopping in Puno, on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca, and then resume their journey onto La Paz. The buses from La Paz to Puno leave every day from the terminal in Avenida Peru. This trip takes around 6 hours, depending on the route and bus company you choose. The bus companies doing this route are Trans Titicaca (normal bus), Tour Peru (semi lie-flat bus), Nuevo Continente Internacional (lie-flat bus) and Trans Salvador (lie-flat 3 rows). From Puno to Arequipa there is the option of taking a tourist bus with the company 4M Express, or to travel with Transzela or Tour Peru. The buses arrive in Arequipa at the bus terminal located on Avenida Arturo Ibañez.
• Tourist bus: You can travel with Bolivia Hop from La Paz to Arequipa in a tourist bus. The journey takes about two days with multiple stops in Lagunillas, Juliaca, Puno and Copacabana. Bolivia Hop provides a personalized service with guides and assistance with border crossing paperwork.

SOME TOURISTIC INFORMATION THAT CAN BE OF INTEREST

• Walking Tour of the City: From the Plaza de Armas in the center of Arequipa, you can take a walking tour of the city with daily departures at 10:00am and 3:00pm. Tour is free but does not include tip.
• Plaza de Armas: The Plaza is surrounded by classic colonial buildings making it part of UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List. Cafes and restaurants are tucked away amongst the arches, perfect for an afternoon coffee.
• Yanahuara: The Yanahuara view-point is one of the best places to have a good view of Arequipa. It is about a 30-minute walk from the center of town and gives you a lovely view of the city. 
• Alpaca World: Alpaca World is the place to go if you want to learn about this animal. Free entrance. 
• Santa Catalina Monastery: The beautiful Santa Catalina Monastery was built in the 16th century. Girls as young as 12 were sent here to be nuns by their families. And lived out the rest of their lives inside its walls.
• Food: The food in Arequipa is some of the best in South America. You can find food from authentic Peruvian cuisine to burgers and locally brewed craft beers. 
• Accommodation: There are over 150 hotels in Arequipa ranging from $20-$180 and plenty of hostels for smaller budgets.
