In order to travel by bus from Cusco to Santa Cruz by bus, you need to divide the trip in two segments, as there is no direct trip by land between these two cities. The first segment of the trip should be Cusco- La Paz. The buses leave from Cusco to La Paz from the Bus Terminal located on via de Evitamiento. The trip from Cusco to La Paz by bus takes between 13 and 15 hours, depending on the bus, and on whether or not the route takes you through Copacabana or directly through Puno, with migration in Desaguadero. In both cases, the buses arrive finally in La Paz at the bus terminal located on Peru Avenue, at the city´s center.
From La Paz, you should take the bus to Santa Cruz from the same terminal, paying a small fee called Uso de Terminal, which costs 2.5 bolivianos. The trip takes around 18 hours by bus, covering a distance of 851 km, from the highlands of the Altiplano to the lowlands, where the climate is tropical and humid and the altitude no more than 400 m above sea level.
