In
order to travel from Cusco to Cochabamba, you need to divide the trip in at
least two segments, as there is no direct trip available. The best option to do
this is to travel first from Cusco to La Paz and, from there, take a direct bus
to Cochabamba.
The distance between
Cusco and La Paz is 642 km, and the bus trip takes between 12 and 15 hours,
depending on the bus and the route you take. The buses leave from the Bus
Terminal of Cusco, located on Avenida de Evitaimento, at 22:00 and 22:30, and
they arrive the next day at the bus terminal of La Paz, located on Peru Av.
Once in La Paz, you have several options to continue the trip to Cochabamba,
since buses leave from that bus terminal almost at every hour until
23:00.
The city of La Paz is
348 km away from Cochabamba. Because trips between these two cities are so
common, there are buses offering this service at all hours night and day. The
trip takes between 6 and 8 hours, depending on the time of day, and the most
popular departures are at night, arriving in Cochabamba early in the morning.
To go from La Paz to Cochabamba by bus you must go to the main Bus Terminal in
La Paz, located on Uruguay Avenue. Before boarding the bus there is small fee
charged by the terminal that you must buy, called Uso de Terminal. The bus will
make a short stop in the city of El Alto in order to pick up passengers, and
another stop half way through the trip so you can use the bathroom and buy a
snack.
