TRAVEL OPTIONS FROM COPACABANA TO PUNO

Direct trip: Buses from Copacabana to Puno are direct. The border crossing takes place at the Kasani migratory office. It takes about 3 to 4 hours from Puno to Copacabana. The bus companies offering this service are: Tour Peru and Trans Titicaca, Huayruro Tours, and Transzela.
Tourist bus: If you are traveling from La Paz with Bolivia Hop, you can enjoy the scenic route around the lake from Copacabana to Puno with Bolivia Hop and then continue your journey to Cusco or Arequipa. The journey includes stops to take photos of the lake and help from the guides with the necessary paperwork and immigration processes for crossing.

SOME TOURISTIC INFORMATION THAT CAN BE OF INTERES

Puno and Copacabana are the two most important towns on the shores of the sacred Lake Titicaca, which is at the border of Bolivia and Peru. At around 3,800 meters above sea level, Puno offers tours of Lake Titicaca to see the famous floating islands of the Uros people. On the other side of the lake, on the Bolivian side, Copacabana offers also many tourist attractions such as boat trips to the Sun and Moon Islands.

Uros Floating Islands: Founded by the Uros people hundreds of years ago, the islands have been artificially made from the native totora reed. The tours last about 3-4 hours and leave 3 times a day.
Amantani Island: Further away than the Uros Islands, Amantaní Island provides a fascinating and authentic insight into local indigenous culture. Tourists can spend a night there in a family home.
Taquile Island: Another island well worthy of a visit is Taquile, typically included on an Amantaní tour. Located 25 kilometers from Puno, it is famous for its fine textiles.
Sillustani: Back on the mainland, 34 kilometers away from Puno, Sillustani is a pre-Inca burial ground. Here, a series of funeral towers, known as chullpas, were built to house the deceased families of community nobles.
Catedral de Puno: This 18th-century Baroque cathedral towers over the city center.
Casa del Corregidor: This17th-century colonial building is supposed to be one of the oldest in the city. Nowadays, it hosts a small fair trade artisans store as well as a café.
Museo Municipal Carlos Dryer: The museum holds a solid selection of regional artefacts and textiles, including a collection of mummies with deformed skulls.
Restaurants: Enjoy the fresh fish from the Lake and Peruvian food from one of its many restaurants and cafes.
Accommodation: There are plenty of options in Puno to choose depending on your budget. You can also spend a night on Amantani Island in a family homestay.
